About my job

“I was always aware that Barratt had an encouraging reputation; however as a student I was sceptical whether this sector of the industry was focused purely on volume house building. After researching Barratt, I could see that this company was an exception, not only for being acknowledged as a '5 Star House Builder' but also because they are focused on bettering the industry by providing opportunities for invaluable work experience and structured training. Whilst applying for the Undergraduate Programme and completing the 'Personality Questionnaire', I realised that this Internship was perfect for me. My eagerness to join the company only increased when it was clear that Barratt cared just as much as I did about finding the perfect match, ensuring I would fit in with their team culture.

My experience with Barratt has been thoroughly enjoyable and has exceeded the expectations I had about my placement year experience. Everyone at Barratt really is enthusiastic, making every effort to help young professionals gain invaluable training and an understanding of the housebuilding industry.

The best part of my job was the way in which I was been made to feel like a valued and equal member of the team. I was given some great projects and opportunities to be involved in to test my skills and ability. As a result I was rewarded with more responsibilities, encouraging me to seek further challenges. Being able to work closely with other departments allowed me to explore aspects of the job I enjoyed most including the challenges of technical reports, sustainable housebuilding and the unique problems to solve that come with the variety of sites. The level of trust and support I received day to day reassured me that working with Barratt provided me with the best experience possible.

Joining the company was a great decision and I would personally recommend Barratt as an employer. This is such a rewarding opportunity for anyone wishing to gain an overall knowledge of housebuilding within a company who strive towards quality and unbeatable expertise.

Before I return to Barratt next year, I was also given the opportunity to spend 2 weeks in Barratt London, working alongside the Technical Team at the prestigious Fulham Riverside development, and also in the Aldgate office. Now I’m back at university studying for my final year, the big decision for me is whether I come to back to Barratt Bristol or Barratt London on the Graduate Programme!”
